666Bet’s Betting license revoked – Owner arrested in 21 million money laundering fraud?

666bet arrived on the scene with all guns blazing. Their was a costly TV campaign for maximum exposure, Harry Redknapp was the front man promising a nice big juicy bonus. High-profile betting partners including Premier League clubs Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion where contracted…………so what´s happened?

It all started to go wrong for 666bet when they chose the Novigroup for their software platform. the then CEO Barry Martin was not happy and decided to replace with the new BetConstruct platform . After 18 months of messing around, credibility and momentum was lost and it didn´t get better when they established a reputation as a slow payer!

So is that the real reason for the collapse?, or was it something more sinister, like the £21 million money laundering fraud that´s being investigated by by the UK’s HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), the Guernsey Border Agency and the Manx and Cheshire Constabularies? . It´s sure to come out, but the UKGC do not suspend licenses for minor misdemeanours, it as to be something that´s become a real issue. With regards to that and other notices:

The UKGC (UK Gambling Commission) has suspended the operating license of 666Bet.

As posted on the UKGC website. We have “commenced a review under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005” of the license held by Metro Play Limited, which covers both the Metroplay.com and 666bet.com sites.

The review was necessary because the UKGC suspects that Metro Play Ltd. is “unsuitable to carry on the licensed activities (section 120(1)(d) of the Act) and considers it appropriate to suspend the license with immediate effect pending the conclusion of the review.”

They also stated that the license suspension was “an interim measure, the need for which will be kept under consideration whilst the review takes place.” The UKGC have ordered Metro Play Limited to settle any outstanding bets and return any balances to customers.

666Bet and Metro Play sites currently display a misleading message:

“Please be aware that due to unforseen circumstances our website is now down for maintenance. Please note that all pending withdrawals WILL be processed in due course. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience during this period. Prior to that was the usual lie : “performing maintenance for the next couple hours so that our engineers can work to improve your player experience.” The sites “will be back as soon as possible with better services for you.”

On saturday 21st March, 666Bet’s official Twitter feed said the site was down “ We apologise for the continued downtime of the website. Please be patient and we will announce very soon how to withdraw funds¨.

The former 666Bet CEO Barry Martin has stepped down to join KPI Gaming Consultants.
